ABOUT THE FILM

After meeting at a college party, Jane Liang, a pre-med major, and Derek Wu, a computer engineering student, learn about their mutual forbidden desire to become artists and dream to reach "where the stars are." Burdened by the expectations of their Asian parents, they soon grow closer and share the pain of their pasts, leading to a tale of love, loss, self-acceptance, and breaking free from parental expectations. 

Where the Stars Are is an Austin-based feature narrative co-directed by Andy Yang, Kirtana Banskota, and Amy McPeak. The romantic dramedy is also written by Andy Yang. 90% of the cast and crew for the film are AAPI and POC, and 99% are local to Austin. WTSA is a romantic dramedy with three original songs. Mission Statement Our goal is to help motivate aspiring artists to follow their own path and pursue their dreams. Impact The film tackles issues related to parental pressure, identity, trauma, and challenges related to being Asian American in modern-day America. Over 75% of cast and crew are of Asian descent, and over 90% of the main cast are Asians. Three original musical songs performed by Asian Americans. Set in Austin, Texas. Motivates the audience to follow their dreams and set their own path in life.

Our goal is to help motivate aspiring artists who want to be filmmakers, musicians, and artists to follow their own path and pursue their dreams.
